On October 20, Base Network, a prominent layer-2 platform on the Ethereum blockchain, introduced a no-cost eight-week training initiative, titled “Base Bootcamp.” This endeavor aims to transition seasoned software developers into proficient blockchain developers, addressing the growing need for Web3 skilled individuals in the tech realm.
The Base Bootcamp is engineered for mid to senior-level software engineering professionals, requiring an application process to secure a seat. With a cap of less than 20 students per cohort, the program promises a focused and interactive learning experience. Applications will remain open until October 27, ensuring interested developers act swiftly to seize this opportunity.
A stark disparity exists between the number of traditional software developers and those versed in blockchain technology. As per Base Network’s assessment, a mere 0.1% of the near 30 million software developers globally are equipped to build Web3 applications. This program emerges as a timely solution, striving to bridge this substantial skills gap.
Earlier this year, Base Network rolled out an open-to-all online course, “Base Camp.” However, the self-paced learning model posed challenges in maintaining a steady learning momentum. Hence, the Base Bootcamp has been conceived to offer a more structured and supportive learning environment.
Each enrollee will be paired with a mentor for weekly interactions, supplemented with access to a vibrant community of Coinbase and Base engineers during designated office hours. The inclusion of a private Discord server furthers collaborative learning, allowing students to engage with peers and Base professionals. Additionally, practical assignments will be graded, culminating in a final project where students will construct and showcase their own Web3 app.
Though tuition-free, a refundable commitment deposit of 1 Ether is required to ensure program completion. Upon successful graduation, the deposit will be returned, marking a cost-effective pathway towards mastering blockchain development.
The Base Bootcamp resonates with the broader industry’s call for more Web3 developers. Its launch mirrors global educational trends, like certain Australian educational bodies advocating for Web3 development coursework in high schools. Moreover, it complements other initiatives like Circle’s recent toolkit release, simplifying Web3 development through familiar Web2 frameworks, thus propelling the blockchain development ecosystem forward.
