A dormant Bitcoin whale that mined BTC during the early days of the Bitcoin network has recently moved millions in Bitcoin, according to blockchain data firm Arkham Intelligence. This whale, active only in the first two months of Bitcoin’s existence back in 2009, has transferred $3.58 million worth of Bitcoin to the Kraken exchange since Sept. 24. Most recently, on Oct. 3, they moved 10 Bitcoin, valued at $610,000.

Arkham reported that the whale’s wallet, which had been inactive for nearly a decade, now holds 1,169 Bitcoin, worth approximately $72.4 million at today’s prices. This movement has sparked renewed interest in the origins of Bitcoin, with many speculating whether this whale could be connected to Bitcoin’s elusive creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

The timing of this discovery coincides with HBO’s upcoming documentary "Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery," set to premiere on Oct. 8. The film claims to unveil Nakamoto’s true identity, with some suggesting that deceased American computer scientist and cypherpunk Len Sassaman may be named as Nakamoto. Sassaman, who died in 2011, had a Bitcoin-related memorial encoded into the blockchain.

While Sassaman’s wife denies any connection, old posts of his have surfaced, criticizing Bitcoin’s lack of privacy and fraud protection. The whale’s sudden activity, paired with the documentary’s release, continues to fuel speculation about Bitcoin's origins and Nakamoto’s identity.
