Arbitrum, Ethereum's largest layer 2 scaling solution, has proposed a new dispute resolution system called the Bounded Optimistic Liveness Dispute (BoLD) protocol. The proposal, initiated on January 6, aims to make the network resistant to delays in transaction processing and has received unanimous support from community members. The voting period will conclude on January 24. The BoLD protocol is designed to open up Arbitrum's validation system to anyone, addressing the current limitations that allow bad actors to exploit the validation process during disputes. It seeks to enforce a fixed time limit on dispute resolution, mitigating the risks of transaction delays. While BoLD enables permissionless validation on Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova will maintain a permissioned model but will add Infura to its validator whitelist to enhance security. If approved, the BoLD protocol is set to be deployed on February 12.
