Asia has surpassed North America as the leading region for cryptocurrency and blockchain development talent, with its share of crypto developers increasing to 32% in 2024 from 13% in 2015. In contrast, North America's share has decreased significantly from 44% to 24% during the same period. Despite the majority of crypto developers (81%) now residing outside the United States, the US still has the highest total number of developers globally, with approximately 18.8% based there. India follows at 11.8%, and the UK at 4.2%. Notably, the US experienced a drop of over 51% in developer share since 2015, even as institutional interest in cryptocurrencies has grown. In the US, 22.3% of developers live in California and 13.7% in New York, with most developers (64%) residing outside these two states. This shift in developer distribution reflects a broader trend of mass adoption of blockchain technology, driven by a growing developer base in Asia.
