Avalanche9000, the largest upgrade for the Avalanche blockchain, has been launched on its test network. This upgrade aims to reduce transaction costs, validator operations, and facilitate app development on the network. The Avalanche Foundation is working to attract developers and users to build customized blockchains, referred to as subnets. Notable changes include ACP-77, which allows for a new type of cheaper, permissionless validator to enhance subnet launches, and ACP-125, which significantly reduces the base fee for computations on the Avalanche network's primary chain. The foundation is encouraging experimentation with subnets through the Retro9000 initiative, which offers $40 million in rewards for developers who build in the test environment and subsequently launch on the mainnet. The team hopes to launch Avalanche9000 on the mainnet by the end of the year, enhancing Avalanche's competitive edge against leading L2s like Arbitrum and Polygon.
