The Avalanche Foundation has launched the Avalanche Card, a new Visa card that allows users to spend cryptocurrency. Announced on October 21, the card supports assets like Circle's USD Coin, Wrapped AVAX, and BENQI Liquid Staked AVAX, and can be used wherever Visa is accepted. It is linked to a self-custody wallet and provides a unique address for each asset, with user activity not reported to credit bureaus. The card is initially available in Latin America and the Caribbean, excluding residents of certain countries such as Cuba and Venezuela. Notably, there is no spending fee associated with the card, though it is emphasized that cryptocurrency is not legal tender and can lose value. The Avalanche Card is issued by partners in respective jurisdictions, and both Avalanche and Rain Liquidity, the service provider, are not banks and do not offer FDIC insurance.
