A man named SK Mausad Alam was arrested by Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations for his alleged role in the $235 million hack of India's largest crypto exchange, WazirX. The attack in July involved unauthorized access to the exchange's hot and cold wallets, during which hackers drained GALA tokens and forced the transfer of assets from WazirX’s cold wallet. Alam is accused of opening a fraudulent account using the alias Souvik Mondal, which he sold to a third party, leading to his involvement in the heist. During the investigation, authorities discovered Alam received significant crypto deposits into the account he created. Despite the severity of the breach, police found no indications of unauthorized access to WazirX's internal systems. Investigators expressed difficulties obtaining crucial data from Liminal Custody, the firm securing WazirX’s wallets, which impeded tracing the funds and identifying other participants in the crime.
