A Texas federal court has ordered Frank Richard Ahlgren III, a Bitcoin investor, to surrender his cryptocurrency public and private keys, accounts, and access codes following a conviction for tax fraud. Ahlgren was sentenced in December to two years in prison for failing to report over $3.7 million in Bitcoin sales from 2017 to 2019, costing the US government approximately $1.1 million in lost taxes. Judge Robert Pitman mandated the identification and transfer of all devices storing his cryptocurrency, including public and private keys.
