Bitcoin Price Rally Elevates El Salvador and Bhutan's Crypto Holdings
The recent bitcoin rally has seen the value of El Salvador's bitcoin holdings rise above $500 million, while Bhutan's surpasses $1 billion. El Salvador's stash, slightly under 5,932 BTC, is valued at approximately $516 million with bitcoin priced at $87,000. In contrast, Bhutan, with a population of around 800,000, holds 12,574 BTC, representing over one-third of its GDP, which amounts to roughly $3 billion. El Salvador's holdings constitute only 1.5% of its GDP. Bhutan has accumulated its bitcoin primarily through mining, leveraging its abundant hydroelectric power. Since November 2022, El Salvador has been gradually increasing its bitcoin investments, showing a positive fiscal trend as it plans to buy back $2.5 billion of its dollar-denominated debt. This strategy has faced scrutiny from the International Monetary Fund but continues to evolve favorably for the nation.
