The US Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) is delaying the delivery of Bitmain Antminer ASICs at US ports, impacting several US Bitcoin mining companies. Reports indicate that some miners have been waiting for their equipment for two months. The latest models, specifically the Antminer S21 and T21 series, are included in the hold. The CBP is imposing a holding fee on these shipments, amounting to over $200,000 for some companies, as the agency acts on a request from the US Federal Communications Commission. One source suggested that the freeze is connected to ongoing investigations into Sophgo, a chip designer linked to Bitmain and involved in a controversy over chips found in a Huawei AI processor, which is under US sanctions. Notably, ASICs from other Chinese manufacturers are not facing similar holds.
