Flashbots has launched BuilderNet, a decentralized block-building network on Ethereum, aiming to combat censorship and tackle the issue of centralized block construction. As recent reports indicate, Beaverbuild and Titan Builder have collectively constructed around 88% of Ethereum's blocks, raising concerns over the risks of decreased decentralization. BuilderNet, introduced on November 26, is designed to facilitate collaboration among multiple parties in building blocks, which could significantly reduce the censorship of transactions, particularly against the compliance requirements of the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control. The new network operates using a multioperator system within a Trusted Execution Environment, enabling protocols and users to verify transactions. It also aims to redistribute maximum extractable value back to users instead of allowing block builders to profit from it, thus addressing hidden profits observed in existing systems. The first iteration of BuilderNet, developed by Flashbots in collaboration with other infrastructure firms, has launched on Ethereum's mainnet, with plans for a more permissionless future iteration to enhance decentralization.
