Canadian police praise Tether for 'swift' recovery of stolen funds
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) expressed gratitude towards Tether for aiding in an investigation that led to the recovery of approximately 10,000 Canadian dollars (about $7,186) in stolen Tether stablecoins. Through collaboration with the OPP’s Cyber Investigations Team, Tether was able to freeze and return the stolen assets to the victim. Detective Staff Sergeant Addison Hunter stated that Tether's cooperation was crucial for the swift recovery of the stolen digital assets. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting law enforcement in combatting cybercrime, emphasizing the importance of holding malicious actors accountable. Tether has a history of assisting law enforcement and has previously frozen funds associated with illicit activities. The firm's actions reflect ongoing efforts to cooperate with authorities and maintain compliance with regulations, especially following pressures from U.S. lawmakers regarding sanctions and enforcement against money laundering activities.
