The CFTC is reportedly considering an investigation into Crypto.com's sports betting contracts for the Super Bowl. The agency is weighing the legality of these futures contracts that allow betting on football matches, with a decision expected after the Super Bowl on February 9. Although the CFTC cannot halt trading immediately, it can impose restrictions following its review. Crypto.com had notified the CFTC about these contracts on December 19, starting trading on December 23. The investigation arises amid discussions within the CFTC regarding the regulation of event contracts, which have gained popularity through decentralized betting markets. A spokesperson from Crypto.com indicated that the firm has not been informed of any CFTC action and expressed disappointment that current leadership may act before the arrival of new leadership, which might adopt a different regulatory perspective.
