CFTC's Pham Implements Leadership Changes Following Trump Appointment
CFTC acting chair Caroline Pham has made significant personnel changes at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission shortly after her appointment by President Donald Trump. She named new interim officials to leadership roles, including directors for market oversight and enforcement divisions and a position dedicated to crypto outreach. Harry Jung was appointed as acting chief of staff to lead the CFTC's engagement on cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance (DeFi), and other digital assets. Previously, he served as Pham's policy adviser and has extensive experience in finance. Also, Meaghan Tente has transitioned to acting general counsel, Taylor Foy to the Office of Public Affairs, and Tom Smith to the market participants division. Pham acknowledged the former leadership led by Rostin Behnam, who expressed concerns about the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies. These changes follow the CFTC's announcement of a record $17.1 billion in monetary relief for fiscal year 2024, largely due to enforcement actions in crypto-related cases.
