Circle Scoops 'World's Largest' Tokenized Money Market Fund Amid Sector Boom
Circle has acquired Hashnote, securing control over the world's largest tokenized money market fund, USYC, which is backed by U.S. Treasury debt and valued at over $1.25 billion. This acquisition comes amid a surge in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, as firms vie for a share of this lucrative market. Circle aims to integrate USYC with its USDC stablecoin, enhancing liquidity and usability in both crypto and traditional finance through a partnership with Cumberland, a key player in institutional crypto trading. The integration positions USYC as a preferred collateral option, unlocking significant opportunities in capital markets. Additionally, Circle announced plans to deploy USDC on Canton, a blockchain designed for secure financial applications. This marks a critical moment for tokenized assets, with the sector's total value locked projected to grow significantly. Circle's CEO Jeremy Allaire emphasized the potential in merging cash and collateral seamlessly, setting the stage for traditional finance structures to embrace crypto.
