Coinbase users reported significant delays in Solana transactions on the platform, coinciding with network congestion caused by the memecoin launches by US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania. Following the launch of the Official Trump (TRUMP) memecoin on January 18 and the Official Melania (MELANIA) token on January 19, some users experienced transaction delays as long as 15 hours. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong acknowledged the unexpected surge in Solana activity and stated that the team is working on improving their infrastructure. Mert Mumtaz, CEO of Solana infrastructure provider Helius, clarified that the delays were separate from Solana's performance, with Coinbase estimating processing times of 100 minutes for USDC transactions on Solana. Despite the congestion issues, Solana maintained 100% uptime for the past 90 days. The surge in trading volume reportedly led to over 200,000 new on-chain users since Trump's token launch, highlighting the impacts of the memecoin frenzy on the Solana network.
