Consensys decentralizes Linea with new Swiss nonprofit association
Consensys has launched the Linea Association, a Swiss nonprofit poised to advance the decentralization of Linea, a layer-2 zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) rollup. Announced at the Devcon event in Bangkok on November 13, the association aims to support Linea technology, develop its market, and further its decentralization roadmap. The association will facilitate tokenholder governance by launching a Linea token in Q1 2025, allowing tokenholders to oversee various activities of the association. Linea is determined to foster community-driven governance and positions decentralization as fundamental to its mission, aligning it with Ethereum’s ethos of public ownership and governance. Key individuals from Consensys, including founder Joseph Lubin, have expressed that the success of Layer 2 solutions hinges on avoiding control by narrow interests, and the establishment of the Linea Association emphasizes this commitment to a more decentralized model.
