A report from Chainalysis indicates that while global crypto donations to extremist groups have declined, Europe has seen a significant uptick. Between 2022 and 2024, Europe comprised nearly 50% of on-chain activity related to extremist groups. Notably, the value and frequency of donations have surged, with categories such as white nationalist and nationalist groups seeing increases in deposits of 270% and 164%, respectively. This rise in funding correlates with polarizing political events, which attract more donations to extremist causes. North America continues to lead with $20 million in donations, compared to Europe's $1.9 million. In response to stringent anti-terrorism laws and debanking practices, extremist groups are adapting by utilizing the dark web and privacy coins like Monero, allowing them to evade sanctions and secure funding. The report emphasizes that these groups often blend various extremist ideologies to broaden their financial base.
