Crypto-friendly Congress steps into power
The 119th Congress, now in session, boasts 298 crypto-friendly legislators according to Stand With Crypto. The Republican-led House has commenced with initial votes, including the re-election of Mike Johnson as speaker. However, attention is soon expected to shift toward crypto-related legislative matters, particularly market structure and stablecoin legislation. Notable figures such as Allison Behuniak have been appointed to influential roles within the House Financial Services Committee, hinting at a proactive stance on digital assets. Faryar Shirzad from Coinbase highlighted the absence of anti-crypto candidates during the elections, underscoring a perceived lack of public support for anti-crypto positions. The importance of keeping lawmakers accountable post-election has also been emphasized within the crypto community, suggesting ongoing scrutiny of their actions. Blockchain Association CEO Kristin Smith noted that there seems to be no political advantage to opposing crypto, suggesting that the new legislative environment may favor pro-crypto initiatives.
