In December 2024, losses from crypto scams, exploits, and hacks amounted to $28.6 million, marking it as the smallest monthly total for the year. CertiK reported that while this figure represented a significant decline from $63.8 million in November and $115.8 million in earlier months of 2024, exploits were responsible for the bulk of the losses, totaling $26.7 million. The most notable incidents included a $2.1 million exploit of the DeFi platform GemPad and a $1 million drain from the FEG project due to a crosschain message verification error. Additionally, PeckShield noted a similar decline in losses, recording $24.7 million in December, a 71% decrease from the previous month. Noteworthy incidents included a $2.2 million theft from Yei Finance and a significant breach affecting LastPass, which had resulted in extensive crypto thefts prior to 2024.
