Crypto liquidations reach $470M as Bitcoin retraces, altcoins surge
Bitcoin recently retreated after a failed attempt to break the $100,000 mark, leading to over $470 million in crypto positions being liquidated in the last 24 hours. This weekend marked one of the largest liquidation events seen in over six months, with long positions accounting for $352.6 million and short positions at $119.9 million. Altcoins experienced significant liquidation, including Dogecoin, XRP, and Stellar, with combined liquidations totaling $108.9 million for Bitcoin and Ether alone. Many altcoins from the 2020-2021 cycle, such as Stellar, surged by up to 50%, while Dogecoin reached its highest level since May 2021. Analysts noted a renewed interest from traders who are re-investing in familiar utility tokens that are currently undervalued. Overall, Bitcoin's price has skyrocketed nearly 44% since early November, though it currently sits at $97,790, just below its recent all-time high.
