Agne Linge, a Web3 executive and former director at Binance Lithuania, emphasizes the necessity of regulation for the broader adoption of decentralized finance (DeFi). Speaking at Binance Blockchain Week in Dubai, Linge noted that while regulations have developed for centralized exchanges and wallet providers, DeFi remains largely unregulated. He argues that to foster trust and safety among users, regulatory frameworks are essential. Linge contends that even decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) may expose members to legal liability, contradicting the notion that DeFi operates completely independently. He believes that DeFi, despite its decentralized technology, involves interactions that could benefit from regulatory clarity. Linge points out that DeFi has the potential to decrease reliance on centralized financial systems, fostering more efficient global connections. However, he suggests that while DeFi is currently a niche, it may evolve into a model where legal entities take responsibility for operations, ultimately benefiting global finance.
