Ethereum developers have set a timeline for the upcoming Pectra upgrade, targeting a release date for March 2025. This upgrade represents a significant evolution of the Ethereum blockchain, containing eight major improvements known as Ethereum improvement proposals (EIPs). Key enhancements include EIP-7702, which improves wallet user experience by allowing them to be programmed like smart contracts, and EIP-7251, which increases the maximum stake from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH for validators. This aims to ease the burden on those wishing to invest more than 32 ETH, as it currently requires splitting their stake across many nodes. Pectra is the first significant upgrade since 2024 and will undergo testing on Ethereum’s Sepolia and Holesky test networks throughout February before launching on the mainnet if all goes smoothly.
