Amrita Srivastava, a former senior employee at Binance, has filed a lawsuit against the UK arm of the cryptocurrency exchange, alleging unfair dismissal and bribery. Srivastava, who worked at Binance from 2022 to 2023, claims she reported a colleague soliciting bribes from customers. She was allegedly terminated a month after bringing this issue to management's attention in April 2023. The unnamed employee reportedly accepted the bribe under the pretense of providing consultancy services. In response to the allegations, Binance stated that the incident was already known and that her dismissal was due to poor performance. Srivastava emphasized her moral obligation to report the misconduct, stating that the act of soliciting bribes is unequivocally wrong. The outcome of the lawsuit remains uncertain, but plaintiffs in the UK can receive significant compensation for successful unfair dismissal claims, with potential unlimited compensation for whistleblowers. This legal battle comes amidst Binance facing regulatory challenges in the United States over unregistered securities offerings.
