Gary Wang, the former CTO of FTX, has requested the court to impose no prison time for his role in the exchange's 2022 collapse. Wang pleaded guilty to four criminal counts in December 2022 and is scheduled for sentencing on November 20. The charges could lead to a maximum of 50 years in prison, though previous sentences for his former colleagues suggest his fate may be less severe. His attorneys argued that his involvement was significantly lesser than that of others, pointing out that he did not engage in money laundering or deceptive conduct related to schemes orchestrated by Sam Bankman-Fried. They emphasized Wang's lack of financial rewards from the operation, as he only drew a modest salary. They claim that Wang wrote code without awareness of its potential misuse, which allowed Alameda Research to take customer funds. Following FTX's collapse, Wang has taken on a new job and is preparing for fatherhood, having married earlier this year.
