FTX debtors recover $14M in political donations
FTX debtors have reported recovering over $14 million in political contributions as part of their bankruptcy case. A Dec. 10 filing in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware detailed settlements with various political action committees, including $6 million from the House Majority PAC, $3 million from the Senate Majority PAC, and several thousand dollars from state Democratic parties. These recoveries stem from donations made by FTX under the direction of its former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, who is charged with improperly using customer funds for political contributions. FTX filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2022, and ongoing court proceedings are expected to allow debtors to repay users nearly 119% of their claimed account values. While Bankman-Fried was not indicted on campaign finance charges, other former executives face legal challenges related to campaign finance violations, with sentences and plea deals already in place for several of them.
