Gary Wang, a co-founder of FTX, has requested to be spared prison time after his cooperation in the case against the failed cryptocurrency exchange. His lawyer argued that Wang faced fewer criminal counts than others involved and willingly admitted to wrongdoing shortly after FTX's collapse in November 2022. Wang's legal team noted he was the first to cooperate with law enforcement, played a limited role in the company's failure, and maintained a modest lifestyle compared to his more affluent co-defendants. As a result of his cooperation, which helped in recovering funds lost in bankruptcy proceedings, Wang's lawyer contends a non-custodial sentence would be appropriate. His sentencing is scheduled for November 20. Other FTX figures, including Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, received substantial prison sentences for their roles in the company's downfall.
