Nishad Singh, former director of engineering at FTX, was sentenced to time served by a federal judge, avoiding prison time unlike his former colleagues. Singh, who pleaded guilty to six criminal counts including wire fraud and conspiracy, is the fourth FTX executive to be sentenced in connection with the fraud. Sam Bankman-Fried, the main figure in the case, received a 25-year prison sentence, while Ryan Salame is serving 7.5 years, and Caroline Ellison was sentenced last month after cooperating with prosecutors. Singh’s legal team argued for no prison time, highlighting his limited involvement in the fraudulent scheme and extensive cooperation with the prosecution and the FTX bankruptcy estate. Although Singh admitted awareness of an $8 billion shortfall in FTX’s finances prior to its collapse, his cooperation seems to have significantly influenced the outcome of his sentencing. This decision marks a milestone in the FTX collapse, which has profoundly affected the cryptocurrency industry.
