FTX’s payment plan is now effective — When will users see their funds?
The reorganization plan for the defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX took effect on January 3, enabling users to begin receiving repayments. Users claiming less than $50,000 could expect to have their funds returned within 60 days. To be eligible for reimbursement, users must have filed a claim through the official website. The initial group of claimants, referred to as 'convenience classes,' will receive payments first, and the plan indicates that 98% of FTX users may receive compensation at 119% of their declared fund values. Critics of the reimbursement plan highlighted the use of 2022 cryptocurrency prices, notably as Bitcoin has surged over 400% since then. While some FTX executives have been sentenced to prison due to fraud, the total expected payout could reach around $16 billion, assuming all users file complete claims. However, reports of actual fund distributions have yet to surface at the time of publication.
