At Devcon Bangkok, Martin Koeppelmann, the founder of Gnosis, delivered a keynote highlighting the need for Ethereum to create its own native layer-2 (L2) solutions, specifically zk-proven rollups. He criticized existing rollups for diverting users to corporate-controlled platforms instead of Ethereum and pointed out vulnerabilities such as the ability of central sequencers to censor withdrawals on DeFi platforms like Aave. Koeppelmann proposed the development of 128 identical native L2s that align with Ethereum's security standards and envisioned this as a way to significantly increase effective block space. He emphasized that these rollups would support Ethereum’s economic framework, allowing developers to build directly on Ethereum tailored to their decentralized application needs. This initiative aims not only to enhance scalability and cost-effectiveness but also to maintain strong composability with the Ethereum mainnet, ultimately facilitating broader user adoption and interaction within the ecosystem.
