Google Pulls Huione App from Play Store Amid Money Laundering Allegations
Google has removed the Huione app from its Play Store following serious allegations of money laundering linked to the platform. Huione Guarantee, primarily a Telegram marketplace, has seen significant growth, reportedly processing $24 billion in transactions and gaining over 900,000 users. The crypto compliance firm Elliptic labels it as the largest illicit online marketplace, closely associated with criminal activities in Southeast Asia. The investigation revealed thousands of listings promoting money laundering services and stolen personal data. Huione's expansion has coincided with the launch of a new USD stablecoin, USDH, which has contributed to their increased inflows. Despite its removal from Google, the app remains available on Apple's App Store, sparking concerns over cyber scams and illicit activities facilitated by Huione, which recently rebranded as Haowang Guarantee. The platform has also introduced a variety of crypto-related products, solidifying its controversial position in the crypto landscape.
