HashKey Europe has expanded into Ireland after receiving a virtual asset service provider (VASP) license from the Central Bank of Ireland. The license allows the company to provide a range of crypto services such as fiat-crypto and crypto-crypto exchanges, custodial wallet services, and the transfer of virtual assets. All crypto service providers in Ireland must register with the central bank for compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism measures as per the EU's Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive. HashKey aims for a significant presence in the Irish market, complementing its operational licenses in Bermuda and several Asian countries. The VASP licensing regime, effective from December 30, 2024, is part of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), which aims to provide clarity and assurance for businesses in the crypto space. Central Bank Deputy Governor Derville Rowland emphasized that MiCA supports financial inclusivity and innovation in the financial sector, providing guidelines for better regulatory coordination among EU member states.
