Here’s what happened in crypto today
Today in crypto, Michael Saylor has posted a Bitcoin chart for the 10th consecutive week, suggesting an imminent Bitcoin purchase by MicroStrategy on January 13. Currently, MicroStrategy holds 447,470 BTC valued at around $42 billion, reflecting a 51% increase on its holdings. Meanwhile, Singapore has blocked access to the cryptocurrency prediction market Polymarket, classifying it as an illegal gambling site. This comes as the Gambling Regulatory Authority enforces the Gambling Control Act 2022, which penalizes unlicensed gambling platforms. Lastly, New York Attorney General Letitia James is filing a lawsuit to recover over $2 million in crypto lost to a scam that falsely promised remote work opportunities, leading victims to invest in crypto and subsequently lose their funds. The scammers reached victims via text messages promising high-paying jobs and manipulated them into creating crypto accounts to make deposits.
