The documentary about Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2025. Filmmakers Blake J. Harris and Jonah Tulis have compiled over 60 hours of footage, including exclusive interviews with Ulbricht during his time in federal prison, following his commutation from a life sentence by US President Donald Trump on January 21. The documentary aims to explore Ulbricht’s transformation from an Eagle Scout to a figure at the center of a global manhunt, addressing misconceptions surrounding his life and the events that led to his arrest in 2013. Ulbricht created the Silk Road darknet marketplace, where illegal goods were traded, and was convicted of several serious charges, leading to his life imprisonment. After his release, it remains uncertain if Ulbricht will pursue a public role in the crypto industry, although similar figures have done so after their experiences in prison.
