Apple is set to pay up to $95 million in a settlement regarding allegations that Siri recorded conversations without the appropriate wake word and shared this data with advertisers. Residents in the U.S. who owned qualifying Apple devices between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, could receive $20 per device, with a maximum of $100 per household. The claims process will commence once the official settlement website launches in February 2025. Claimants will need to provide verification that Siri activated without permission and submit their claims by May 15, 2025. This settlement arises from concerns over privacy violations linked to Siri, with allegations that contractors accessed sensitive recordings. Apple denies any wrongdoing, aiming to improve user experience while maintaining collected data is anonymized. The settlement also mandates the deletion of all Siri recordings made before October 2019.
