Hut 8 is set to boost its self-mining hash rate by 66% in early 2025, thanks to an agreement to purchase 31,145 Bitmain Antminer S21+ machines. The company plans to pay $15 per terahash for the miners, which are expected to be delivered in Q1 2025. Once these machines are operational, Hut 8's hash rate will rise from 5.6 exahashes per second (EH/s) to approximately 9.3 EH/s. Additionally, Hut 8 has a purchase option with Bitmain that could add another 15 EH/s, potentially bringing the overall hash rate to 24 EH/s by Q2 2025. The new miners are expected to enhance fleet efficiency, reducing average consumption from 31.7 to 19.9 joules per terahash (J/TH), a 37% improvement. Hut 8’s decision for these specific models stems from their favorable return on investment compared to more efficient but costlier alternatives. This announcement coincides with a notable rise in Bitcoin's price, further boosting Hut 8's stock value.
