Hyperliquid’s $7.5B airdrop marks shift from centralized token listings
The Hyperliquid (HYPE) token, launched on November 29, has seen a price increase of over 600%, leading to a total airdrop value of $7.5 billion. This decentralized launch reflects a trend away from centralized exchanges, which typically allocate tokens to venture capital firms and early investors. According to Vitali Dervoed, CEO of Composability Labs, this launch signifies the beginning of a new era for fair launch tokens in the crypto market. As of January 15, HYPE was trading at $22.67. The structure of the Hype token allocation includes 31% for the genesis event, a significant portion for community rewards, and a small percentage dedicated to grants and treasury. Hyperliquid's blockchain operates on a proof-of-stake mechanism, capable of processing up to 200,000 transactions per second, with the HYPE token as both a staking asset and the gas token for the HyperEVM layer.
