Indian Railways has partnered with Chaincode Consulting to issue NFT-based tickets for the MahaKumbh Mela festival, utilizing the Polygon blockchain for enhanced scalability. The NFTs will serve as train tickets for millions of travelers attending this significant Hindu pilgrimage, held every 144 years. This initiative aims to digitize the spiritual journey, providing a digital-first experience that aligns with the festival's cultural significance. Speaking on the collaboration, Chaincode Consulting's CEO emphasized the importance of leveraging blockchain to enhance engagement for the event. The Polygon blockchain was chosen for its quick processing speeds and low transaction fees, aimed at environmental sustainability. This partnership follows a previous limited-time NFT ticketing drive by Indian Railways, aiming to promote the cultural heritage of Indian cities. The introduction of personalized NFTs ensures verifiable records of train ticket purchases on a blockchain platform.
