Indian Railways to issue NFT tickets on Polygon for rare festival
Indian Railways is set to issue NFT tickets for the MahaKumbh Mela, a significant Hindu pilgrimage held once every 144 years. This initiative comes from a partnership with Chaincode Consulting and will utilize the Polygon blockchain for its scalability and low transaction costs. The program aims to digitize the experiences of millions of pilgrims traveling to this historic event. The NFTs will be minted on Polygon and accessible through NFTtrace, which handles real-world asset management and traceability. The introduction of NFTs is expected to enhance engagement while respecting the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage. Additionally, Indian Railways had previously rolled out a limited NFT ticketing initiative during the Holi festival, contributing to a growing trend of NFT applications in India. Notably, prominent figures including Laurene Jobs are expected to attend the 2025 MahaKumbh Mela, highlighting the festival's significance on a global scale.
