At the P2PFISY Workshop 2024 in Dubai, economist Paolo Tasca emphasized the necessity for the crypto community to engage in critical questioning and to expand their understanding of Web3 technologies. He noted that many community members fall prey to the “complexity scam,” avoiding questions they perceive as too complicated. Tasca highlighted the importance of creating a platform for regulators, academics, and practitioners to discuss significant industry issues in a non-commercial context. He criticized many crypto projects for prioritizing marketing over transparency, which obscures crucial information. Workshops like P2PFISY aim to provide the tools and knowledge needed for informed discussions about the evolving landscape of Web3, particularly concerning regulations, consumer protections, and the interplay between traditional and decentralized finance. He asserted that while discussions have matured from basic crypto economies to complex interconnections within Web3 and traditional finance, the industry still has considerable work to do in addressing critical questions and concerns regarding these technologies.
