Jito, a key player in the Solana ecosystem, reported a system-wide outage affecting its transaction processing service. This incident occurred shortly after Jito achieved a record of processing 15 million bundles in a single day. The outage, which began early Wednesday morning, caused issues for DeFi protocols on Solana, but did not halt transaction processing on the blockchain itself. Jito validators noted performance problems starting at 4:00 AM, with the official outage declared by 9:30 AM; service was restored by 11:00 AM. Despite the disruption, concurrent demand for Jito's services led to a significant increase in transaction fees, demonstrating the strong reliance on Jito’s infrastructure. The growing demand for access to Solana has resulted in higher MEV tips from traders, which doubled since the altcoin craze earlier in the year. Analysts noted that the spike in fees during the outage supported theories about fee dynamics on the blockchain without Jito's services. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko remarked on the implications, indicating that Jito’s consistent performance reduces overall fees for other users by providing reliability in transaction processing.
