Roman Storm, co-founder of Tornado Cash, is set to face trial for money laundering and sanctions violations only in April 2025. This decision came during a telephone conference on November 1, where Judge Katherine Polk Failla adjourned the trial to April 14, 2025, allowing Storm an additional four months for his legal defense. Storm is currently free on a $2 million bond and has pleaded not guilty to the three federal charges against him: conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit sanctions violations, and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business. The charges originated after the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control placed Tornado Cash on its Specially Designated Nationals list in August 2022, citing failures to prevent the laundering of funds for malicious actors. Meanwhile, co-founder Alexey Pertsev was sentenced to prison in the Netherlands on similar charges.
