Jump Trading has filed a lawsuit against former software engineer Liam Heeger, alleging he stole the firm's intellectual property to launch a competing blockchain venture, Unto Labs. In a complaint submitted in Chicago federal court, Jump contends that Heeger violated his non-compete agreement by actively developing a business that directly competes with Jump while still employed. Heeger, who was a key engineer involved in a significant blockchain project at Jump, resigned on November 11, 2024, after working at the company from February 2023. Following his exit, he reportedly secured $3 million in funding for Unto Labs, which aims to create a new layer-1 blockchain. Jump accuses Heeger of exploiting confidential information and has requested enforcement of the non-compete agreement and the return of any proprietary information. The case highlights the importance of protecting intellectual property in the competitive blockchain industry.
