Jump Trading has filed a lawsuit against former software engineer Liam Heeger, claiming he violated non-competition obligations by starting a rival blockchain company, Unto Labs, following his resignation. The complaint, lodged in a Chicago federal court, accuses Heeger of stealing proprietary intellectual property which includes sensitive business plans, strategies, and software tools developed during his tenure at Jump from February 2023 until November 2024. Allegedly, Heeger secured $3 million in funding shortly after his departure and began planning his new venture while still employed. Jump Trading asserts that Heeger exploited its confidential information for his personal benefit. The company seeks to enforce the non-compete agreement for two years and demands the return of any intellectual property in Heeger's possession. The lawsuit emphasizes the critical nature of protecting confidential information in maintaining competitive advantage in the blockchain industry.
