Kalshi, the first election betting marketplace in the U.S., has expanded its offerings by adding contracts for betting on national elections in countries like Australia and Ecuador. This follows a rise in political wagers ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November 2024. The new markets, which also include elections in Canada and Ireland scheduled for 2025, complement Kalshi's existing U.S. election contracts. Since launching its primary market for the U.S. Presidential election on October 7, Kalshi has achieved a total betting volume of approximately $52 million. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has expressed concerns regarding the impact of election prediction markets on electoral integrity; however, analysts suggest they reflect public sentiment robustly. More than 75 countries will hold elections in 2024, demonstrating the growing relevance of global political betting markets. The addition of international elections might attract more participants to Kalshi as interest builds in upcoming electoral outcomes across various nations.
