Korea’s Jeju to issue NFT tourist cards to boost Gen Z visitors
South Korea’s Jeju Island, a popular tourist destination, is set to trial NFT tourist cards in the second half of 2025 to attract younger visitors, particularly millennials and Generation Z. The initiative will offer a digital tourism card paired with an NFT, providing various perks, including travel subsidies and discounts at local attractions. This move aims to increase the rate of returning younger tourists on the island, known for its hiking trails and resorts. Jeju has a history of adopting crypto initiatives, having launched a contact tracing app in 2021. Local officials have been exploring how blockchain and NFTs can be integrated into tourism and other sectors, including museums and restaurants. With 15.6 million crypto users in South Korea, the island hopes to capitalize on the growing interest in digital assets.
