Ethereum Layer-2 protocols have reached unprecedented transaction processing speeds, with the cumulative throughput climbing to 29.64 million gas units per second (Mgas/s), as reported by growthepie.xyz. Coinbase's BASE leads this advancement, responsible for 67% of the total throughput. Layer-2 protocols serve as scaling solutions built atop primary blockchains such as Ethereum, allowing them to manage higher transaction volumes at reduced costs. This increase in throughput is occurring amidst concerns that sustained demand for these solutions could soon exhaust their capacity. Omkar Godbole, a Co-Managing Editor at CoinDesk, has noted that while the capabilities of Layer-2s are advancing rapidly, vigilance remains essential to ensure that the growing transaction demands do not overwhelm the existing infrastructures.
