Make-A-Wish International Is Asking for Crypto Donations
Make-A-Wish International is appealing to cryptocurrency holders for donations this holiday season, accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDC. President and CEO Luciano Manzo highlighted that supporting charitable initiatives through cryptocurrency can lead to significant social impacts. The charity, which grants wishes to children with critical illnesses in over 50 countries, has fulfilled 585,000 wishes since its inception in 1980. It began accepting crypto donations three years ago through a partnership that enables non-profits to receive cryptocurrency. As more charities embrace this fundraising method, they tap into a young and wealthy demographic willing to support good causes. The concept of accepting crypto donations has gained traction despite prior warnings from the UK Charity Commission regarding potential risks like volatility and fraud. Organizations including JustGiving and Médecins Sans Frontières have also started accepting or enabling crypto donations, indicating a broader shift in the charitable landscape toward digital currencies.
