Malaysia mulls crypto policy after talks with UAE and Binance founder CZ
Malaysia is considering the establishment of cryptocurrency regulations following discussions between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, leaders from Abu Dhabi, and Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance. The proposed regulations aim to modernize the country's financial system and ensure Malaysia keeps pace with global financial trends. Anwar stated that the move represents a significant shift from the traditional financial system, emphasizing the need for swift adaptation to evolving financial landscapes. He indicated that the UAE officials are willing to assist Malaysia in developing a regulatory framework, which will require detailed studies by government bodies such as the Treasury, Securities Commission, and Bank Negara Malaysia. Recently, Malaysia's securities regulator has scrutinized the industry, taking action against unregistered exchanges, including Bybit and others, highlighting the need for regulatory clarity and compliance in the crypto sector.
