Mark Cuban mulls memecoin to pay US debt
Billionaire Mark Cuban has proposed the idea of creating a memecoin to help fund payments on the US national debt. He expressed that if people wish to gamble on such cryptocurrencies, they might as well use that opportunity to contribute towards reducing the national debt. Cuban suggested that this potential memecoin could follow the same structure and terms as a memecoin launched by Donald Trump, with all revenue directed toward the national debt. He noted the importance of public transparency regarding the wallet address to track contributions. While this proposal may not be taken seriously, it underscores the significant challenge of the US debt, which is nearly $36 trillion. His remarks come in a context where the US government, perceived as anti-crypto, has recently seen a shift in attitude with the new president showing interest in the crypto market, exemplified by the introduction of Trump’s official memecoin that achieved a high market cap shortly after launch, although it has since fallen dramatically in value.
